A three year old birthday is not complete without a party and Ethan celebrated his special day with a few friends watching a new 'Bob the Builder' movie.
Bob certainly 'fixed it' for Ethan to have a lovely celebration. He provided hats, Bob the Builder tools and a cake.
It was a lovely coincidence but our local Firestation was holding an 'open day' on Ethan's birthday so we took advantage of the occasion and went along to meet and greet. Ethan was able to climb the trucks and press flesh with the boys in blue (one - two - release).
Earlier in the month the Easter bunny visited and Ethan was able to enjoy some chocolate courtesy of an early morning Easter Egg hunt. Here he is in worship to the god of chocolate...
Ethan is a member of our local zoo and a regular visitor. Here Ethan gazes curiously at a baby chimps bottom wondering if this primate is toilet trained as well as he is.
Ethan has developed OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) a little like his Dad and the object of much of his attention is Thomas the Tank engine. He has his 'Pa' to thank for this. Feeding his obsession, Mum and Dad took Ethan to meet the 'real' Thomas, a life size steam engine complete with Thomas face, blue livery and painted with a number 1. Here Ethan is leaning out of one of the carriages (Annie or Clarabelle for Thomas aficionados).
Following on from the trip to see Thomas, Ethan went to the Jenolan caves (regarded as Australia's most outstanding cave system). Ethan was fascinated with the stalactites and stalagmites but wished he could pronounce them... this talking lark is tough, so many words to learn he thinks to himself - why don't they just call them sticky uppy and downy things!
Ethan is now busy on the social scene and 'does' dinner and drinks with his friends. Here he is enjoying a joke with Charlie over a few beers at the Belgium beer cafe, looks like these boys had a few too many jars of ale...
During May Ethan even managed to squeeze in a trip to Sydney city where he strolled (albeit sat in a pram) to the Botanical Gardens where he did some bat spotting with Dad.
On the same Sydney trip, he then went on to the Art Gallery for a portrait exhibition and then finally taking in the majesty of a Korean tea ceremony. Far too much ceremony and not enough tea and biscuits was Ethan's evaluation of that particular event - he never even got a cuppa tea!!!
It is important that all Australian children learn to swim, not least because children make good appetizers for the sharks so kids need to learn to swim out of their way... so Ethan has started up swimming lessons again. He is sporting a new pair of budgy smugglers (swimming trunks) but unlike the name his pace at swimming is still positively sedentary. Still, he looks the part albeit that he is wondering "does my bum look big in this?"
With the cold winter weather Ethan did have a few down days with a bit of a cold (thankfully not swine flu) but the good news is that he has been back to the ear specialist and it is not affecting his ears at all this year. Both of his grommets have grown out and he will not be needing to replace them. No more glue ear so no more excuses for ignoring what Mummy and Daddy say...
To finish off the photo journal we have the Annual 'May 3rd' Mummy/Ethan birthday photo.
But before Ethan says "Bye - see ya later" and speeds off on his new balance bike... he thought he would give an update of himself at the grand age of three.
Ethan at three - a summary:
Ethan at three - a summary:
He is now 1 metre tall and weighs 15.1kg but still thinks his Mummy/Daddy should carry him up the stairs at home when he is too tired to climb them himself...
